There are phrases in our daily speech that we don’t take literally at all. The cliched phrases sometimes feel to me like a kind of padding in our communication with each other, I find myself saying these phrases without thinking wholly about their origin or meaning. Well, one cliche I want to investigate is, “play (or playing) by ear”.
